pre season v Harberton 23rd April

Saturday 23rd April saw the first pre-season game of 2016. A mix of 1s, 2s and 3s from last season took the field at Harberton in lovely cricketing surroundings. CKCC batted first and mustered 102 from 35 overs in tricky batting conditions. Only 3 batsmen managed double figures on a wet wicket, where slow bowling was king. Each batsmen was caught, many trying to force the scoring, except Kevin Jones who copped a corker yorker. Pat Duke played an enterprising cameo, with some interesting shot selection. Defending 102 was never going to be easy as the pitched dried but CKCC made a good fist of it. Great spells from Andy Lewis and Dylan Karssens kept Harberton up to their work - a first senior wicket for Dylan was just reward for a spell of controlled swing bowling. Harberton passed their target with 4 overs left but much was learned from the game...Pat Duke retains his sledging abilities, Kevin Jones is destined for a career in motivational speaking, Dave Chick can wear 4 layers and still feel cold and CKCC needs catching practice!

All in all it was a worthwhile exercise and whetted appetites for the season ahead.
