Club Captains - Current 1st XV Captains
Paul Williams, 2011/12 - Present
Paul first started playing rugby, aged 6, at Cheltenham RFC and then progressed to playing for Cheltenham Civil Service RFC Colts aged 13/14. Along the way Paul also played for Cleeve School alongside fellow CCSRFC player Danny 'beef' Jones. Aged 17, Paul joined the army, for whom he played rugby league for the battalion and infantry, but returned to Cheltenham in 1998 after leaving the army. After a very short spell at Cheltenham North Paul returned to CCSRFC and after two games as a winger and captain for the 2nd XV was promoted to the 1st XV (playing at blindside flanker because he was too slow to play on the wing). Paul briefly left CCSRFC again in 2005 in order to move to the USA. Whilst there he played rugby for the Chicago West Side Condors and spectacularly broke his arm whilst attempting to 'forearm tackle' a former USA centre. Upon his return Paul captained the 2nd XV for a few games before again returning to the 1st XV. Paul also helps to coach the CCSRFC Ladies.
Women's 1st XV
Natalie Clegg, 2011/12 - Present
Natalie started playing rugby, aged 13, for Cheltenham RFC, when the female game was in its infancy and Cheltenham RFC were the only girls/ladies team in the County. Despite this, the team flourished and, aged 16, Natalie made it onto the Scottish Exiles squad and played regional rugby, both North and South of the border. At 18 Natalie was selected to represent Scotland but an injury sustained in training halted any further progress with the National squad. Shortly after this Natalie went to Derby University where she was able to continue playing, captaining the team in her second year. From there Natalie went on to play for Southampton University and later for Dover RFC. After a short time away from the game to have a family Natalie joined Cheltenham Civil Service Ladies RFC in October 2010, their inaugural year, helping them to gain league status. Coming back to rugby has made her realise how much she missed rugby, but also just how far women's rugby has come. Natalie is very proud to be the Ladies Captain for 2011-12 season and whatever happens she is looking forward to being part of the team for some time yet!
