Chesham Rugby Club Shoot for Southern Counties Success

The current Buck’s Bowl holders begin their Southern Counties campaign with a home semi-final against Hungerford this Saturday.

“We have a good win rate in the cup over the past two seasons, winning three cups already” said Stags Captain Olly Jaycocks. “We won the Buck’s Plate and the Southern Counties Junior Vase last season, and beat Slough before Christmas to secure the 2014 Buck’s Bowl. Our success has been down to our work rate for the full eighty minutes and the lads and I are ready and looking forward to the step up to the Southern Counties Senior Vase.”

Chesham are settling into a higher level this season, having been promoted into the Berks, Bucks, and Oxon Premiership. The Stags are finding themselves up against bigger, more experienced teams than in previous years but are sticking to their game plan of total rugby – based on high skill, sharp running lines, and superior fitness. “We’ve been working on the physical side of our game and taking the opportunities to score when we can. Focusing on clinical finishing and working the opposition until the last minute has got us some great results” says Jaycocks. Coaches Rocky Clark and Kat Merchant continue to drive standards across the club and another successful cup run will be a just reward for their efforts.

The Southern Counties campaign begins this Saturday when the Stags welcome Hungerford to Chiltern Hills Academy. Hungerford are one of the high flyers in the Premiership, and Chesham were on the wrong end of a 19-7 score line in November. “We know it’ll be a tough game and we won’t underestimate them” said the Stag’s captain. “However, I’m confident that if we play to the best of our ability we can get the result and move into the final.”

A home semi-final will certainly help the Stags overcome a strong Hungerford side, with the support of a hopeful home crowd becoming the much-needed sixteenth man. Chesham Rugby Club are always welcoming to new supporters and the game will kick off from 2pm on Saturday at Chiltern Hills Academy. More details are available on www.cheshamrugbyclub.com
