Match Report - Saturday 10 February
Broxbourne Bowled Over
It was the top of the table encounter that everyone was waiting for as Cheshunt played their first match against Broxbourne. It was a nervous start for both sides as they tried to find a route to goal. The game was evenly balanced until mid way through the first half when a break away chance enabled Tierney Dunn to calmly lift the ball over the advancing keeper to take the lead. Both sides had their own scoring opportunities but it was Cheshunt who held the initiative. After the break Broxbourne came out strong and they put pressure on the Cheshunt defence. They had a number of penalty corners but were unable to capitalise on their chances as the Cheshunt defence stood firm. The goal post played its part as it stopped one shot, then shortly after it returned the ball to the Broxbourne striker who finished from close range. Broxbourne continued to pile on the pressure but Cheshunt continued to put their bodies on the line to keep them at bay. Cheshunt created a few opportunities on the break and they stole the winner in the closing stages when the ball fell to Genny Hill in front of an empty net. The next match for Cheshunt is at home to Broxbourne, who will undoubtedly be looking to steal the show. Still all to play for at the top of the table.
