A rain swept Cheshunt kicked off with an impressive start, and an early attempt came at 2 minutes after a cross from Matt Thompson to Josh Hutchinson left Cheshunt in a good position just outside the box, but Waltham Abbey’s defence were sharp and cut The Amber’s run short.
The following ten minutes saw the ball remain in midfield as neither team were creating any chances. This soon changed when Waltham Abbey had multiple sloppy attempts at goal before Cheshunt’s keeper Glenn Williamson cut the chances short throwing himself at the ball.
Waltham Abbey continued to fight but Cheshunt’s Tony Sanderson and Mark Twumasi were dominant in defence and kept Abbey out of the box. David Kicks was shown a yellow card at 16 minutes which resulted in a freekick for Waltham Abbey which was once again well covered by Williamson.
The remainder of the first half was dominated by the away side and Cheshunt’s scoreline was saved solely by a number of brilliant clean takes from Glenn Williamson.

Waltham Abbey’s persistence paid off when they opened the scoreline at 40 minutes when a run down the left wing from Steve Cawley resulted in a low cross strike from Jack Daveney unable to be stopped by unsighted Williamson.
As the second half began, Cheshunt’s manager Tony Faulkner made a substitute replacing Dan Roles for John Megicks attempting to equal the scoreline.

The last fifteen minutes saw another chance for Cheshunt as Anthony Mcdonald broke through Abbey’s defence and a foul on Ryan Wade. The free kick taken by Hicks curled round to the left and a close chance came from Wade’s header. Another cross from Mcdonald on the right followed by another effort from Wade chipped just over the top bar, this looked promising for the home side but Cheshunt just could not finish and Waltham Abbey’s defence were simply on top.
A stop start game dominated by the whistle in difficult conditions, and a disappointing last game to an improved end of the season for Cheshunt.
