Chester Gladiators has been awarded £400 following a successful application to a local asset management’s firm’s community support scheme.

This is fantastic news for our club
- Jim Green, Chairman

The scheme, which was launched earlier this year by Equilibrium Asset Management, provides grants to local organisations and charities on a quarterly basis.

Chester Gladiators, which has recently established its under-7s and under-8s teams to represent Chester in the North West Counties Rugby League Association, plans to use the grant to help set up a new under-9s and under-11s team.

Half of the grant will fund the acquisition of two new level one coaches to take charge of the new created junior teams, whilst plans are also in place to run two taster days to attract more children to the sport and refresh the club’s equipment.

Speaking about Chester Gladiator’s successful application, club chairman Jim Green said: “This is fantastic news for our club. Our junior section has made huge strides in the past 12 months and this will enable us to maintain our growth and development.

“We are excited at the potential for rugby league in Chester and this will go a long way to helping us tap into that and give more children the chance to play our sport.”

Andy Hirst is a partner at the Chester-based company behind the scheme. He said: “We are excited to see our charitable foundation making a contribution to organisations across the community.

“The grant we have been able to provide to Chester Gladiators will go towards providing great new equipment for young rugby enthusiasts at the club, helping to improve their experience.

“I also know the club are looking to use the money to expand and improve the levels of coaching they can offer to young rugby fans across Chester, which will again be great for the community.”

The community support scheme award grants of between £100 to £500 to local charities and organisations in Chester on a quarterly basis.
