Chester 2 71 - Macclesfield 2 15
Chester 2nd team welcome Macclesfield to Hare Lane
The opening exchanges were a very tight affair, an arm wrestle for fifteen minutes before Chester opened the scoring as Tom King ran a hard line in and converted by Shay Owen. Macclesfield replied soon after, from their lineout maul with a ball nicely passed back in. Jimmy Preston showed some class to canter in for the home team’s second try, also converted by Shay Owens. Macclesfield keeping themselves in the game with their maul replied again. Score 14 – 10. Chester, short of field position the first half, did take most of their chances though when in the red zone. Alick Croft scored from a planned lineout play, also converted by Shay Owen. Half time 21-10
Chester started fast, Sam Farrar scoring as Chester put the phases together, converted by Shay and the third try bonus point in as many weeks. Followed by winger Pete Rees. Macclesfield score again from a maul, doing their best to stay in the game. With the score 38-15 the young men from Chester changed a gear, playing some of the most beautiful rugby. Pete Rees went in again, followed by Luke Ryder with two back to back, Craig Ross and finally Jimmy Preston to finish the game (4 from 5 converted by Shay) on 71 – 15.
