Richard Light off with a leg injury doesn't help the Chew Valley linout function.

A win on the road despite only having 30% possession

Cheltenham 11 Chew Valley 19
With 70% of the ball Cheltenham wil regret their lack of a cutting edge against a Chew Valley side showing the effects of three weeks off. Losing influencial lock Richard Light with a broken ankle and outside half Dan Gatton around the 20 minute mark did not help the visitors cause. Mike Dodge for the hosts opened the scoring on 2 minutes with a penalty but Chew Valley showed what they could do with the ball in hand with a well worked try that put winger Joe Webb in a little space but he still had to finish and his strength took him through 3 tackles and his side into a lead they sould not relinquish after five minutes.
Cheltenham controled all but three lineouts throughout the game with No 8 Charlie Daniell in complete control and poor kicking by the visitors from hand. The driving maul was Cheltenhams best weapon but their handling when in scorong positions let them down and despite having most of the ball their one out plays and offloads were well contained by the aggresive Chew Valley defence.
With his first play at outside half in place of Gatton, Tom Bryan bamboozled the midfield defence to ghost through a gap between the centre for a tey on 24 minutesconverted by Alex Cameron at acrum half.
Dodge kicked a second penalty on 33 minutes and it was a one point game at the break.
The second half failed to ignite in difficult conditions with a chill cross field wind. A Ross Elliott try with 11 minutes to go settled the visiting supporters nerves as the Chew Valley front row of Reg Parfitt, Jack Monk and Jonny Eves ( replaced by Liam Houlihan on the hour) gained the ascendancy. Three scrum penalties in quick succession provided the platform for a quick Bryn tap and tro rucks later Elliott capped a fine performance off the bench for Light with the try converted by Cameron. Cheltenham had a Dodge shot after a penalty for the losing bonus point with the last play and with the game swcure Chew Valley attemlted to move the ball for the try bonus loint but it came fo nothing.
