Chew Valley 27 Drybrook 10
Chew Valley came out on top in this battle of the newly promoted teams against the only side to win at Lobbingtons last season. The home front row combinations of Jon Eves, Tristan Davis, Will Keel,lLuke Sparkes Brown andJames Tanner had their opposite numbers in all sorts of trouble from the off with several strikes against the head. Alex Cameron kicked two penalties to one from Olly Clements at outside half for Drybrook to see the scores close at halftime.
The first ten minutes of the second half decided the game, outside half Dan Gatton dropped a goal for Chew Valley from the first play of the half. From a scrum resulting in a Drybrook restart straight to touch, the ball went right, full back Tom Bryan scorched to the line for the try which Cameron converted. Midway through the half Mitch Quoi added a further try and with two penalties from Cameron, Drybrook had too much to do. The home defence weathered 10 minutes of pressure towards the end and for their persistence Drybrook were rewarded with a try from close range after a series of mauls from the line out for Mitch Renton. Coach Bruce Wellman can be well pleased with this first outing He said "there are areas to be worked on as always but I was pleased with the level of fitness and the work rate, too many soft penalties, we must learn to cut these out"
