Chew give league leaders something to ponder for 70 minutes before running out of steam

Chew Valley 8 Old Redcliffians III 29

Chew Valley contained their high flying visitors for all but the last 10 minutes of this match with an outstanding defensive display with Back row Alistair Russell, Adrian Sims and Jamie Carter prominent. The home front row, Gio Fagnani, Nathan Mabbs- Godfrey and Luke Gibbs struggled with heavier opponents and as a consequence what ball Chew won was often going backwards. The Chew midfield of Guy Winters Jamie Gardner and James Horton proved more than a match for their opposite numbers with some sything tackles and when the ball went wide wingers Rory Quoi and Henry Russell were rock solid. Reds right winger Paul Todd returning to one of his former clubs saw little of the ball and seemed more familiar with the spectators than his own team! At half time Reds led by a single score at 8-3 with the Chew points coming from a drop goal by Winters as he made up for three missed penalty shots in the space of five minutes around the 30 minute mark. When second row Matt Curtis snapped up a charged down clearance to bulldoze his way in for a try things were all square. With 10 minutes to go Reds picked up a try bonus point with three further tries as the Chew forwards ran out of steam.
