Chichester U15's Rugby Report versus Hastings 22nd January 2012
With Chichester and Hastings both just above the relegation zone and both teams having difficult matches to end the season this was a must win match.
Chichester started strongly and Robin Aldridge soon opened the scoring with a try in the corner. Chichester continued to attack and a probing kick from Sam Hudson won Chi a 10m scrum from which Number 8 Josh Coleman picked up the ball and crashed the try line to score.
Chi were soon back in the Hastings half as George Bell made good ground and then passed to Danny Graham who slipped several tackles to add to the score. Chris Brooke-Jones added to the Chichester score just before half time.
Chichester started the second half as strongly as they had ended the first and as they continued to pressure the Hastings line Alex Taylor collected the ball 5m out and took the direct route to score.
Hastings were struggling to get out of their own half as Nathan Bennett seized on a spilt ball shrugged off a tackle and sprinted his way to the line.
The Chi pressure was relentless; Rory Sellwood rolled through two tackles and passed the ball down the line to Hudson to score.
Chichester won a line out on the Hastings 22. It was cleanly caught by Taylor who passed to Brooke-Jones who shrugged off five tackles to score under the posts.
Hastings didn’t give up and were rewarded by a consolation try but they were soon on the back foot again as a run from Hudson cut through the defensive line as he added to the score.
Josh Coleman converted 3 kicks and Sam Hudson 1 making the final score 53 - 7
