#CRFCLegacyproject

Dear Members of ‘Team CRFC’,

I just wanted to update you all as to how the clubhouse extension project was progressing. Much has been achieved since the end of the season, finalising the details of the build and negotiating with core contractors to secure the best price available to us as a club.
A huge amount of time has been given over the last weeks by the core team for which I thank them – the magnitude and complexity of the project has become ever more evident and a myriad of regulations have to be met in order that the building satisfies current building regulations.

The construction work is soon to start and will take place in 2 phases; Phase 1 will see the sides and rear of the clubhouse enclosed with a new roof and external walls and cladding. The day to day activities of the club will continue as per normal within the inner core. Phase 2 will see us remove the inner walls of the current Presidents lounge to create the large space we desire. It is planned that phase 1 will be complete by the end of October.

Key Achievements since we last met;

  • CDC and the relevant planning authorities have signed off all required documentation and given us the green light to proceed.
  • The structural engineers have redesigned the foundation requirements of the project to reduce costs.
  • The design of the superstructure has now been finalised and initiated.
  • Over 50% of the pledged funds have been deposited in the CRFC Legacy account.
  • NJS have been appointed as principle contractor on the site – thanks to Nick Shopland for his help.
  • The budget has been finalised and a formal tender process has been completed for all of the major elements. The cost of the entire project has been confirmed as £440k.
  • All trees at the rear of the club have been felled, shredded and logged.
  • Ground preparations / clearance have progressed.
  • Foundations will be dug and poured by August.
  • The outer envelope will be watertight by the end of October.

I will update you further when the concrete has been poured and we will be posting regular picture updates etc. on the website – please keep your eyes peeled – we will need your time, enthusiasm and help to bring the project home – I look forward to seeing your paint spattered faces in the months ahead.

With my kindest regards,

David Kay,
President, Chichester RFC
