Report by Chris Wale

The second team hosted Jersey and came off second best with the scores stopping at 50 it will show as a 0-50 loss. When I arrived Jersey were already at Chi and I walked passed some boys and thought to myself the U16s are here early before I realised it was the Jersey U14. The first thought was to ask for proof of age! As the Chi boys arrived there were quite a few comments on the size of the opposition.

It was clearly going to be a tough morning of rugby and sure enough 5 minutes into the first half we discovered they had pace and size, going over for the first try down the wing. Before we really knew what was happening we were 3 tries down, all breakaway tries with pace.
The boys then rallied and produced some great attacking rugby and were unlucky not to go over, being only a couple of meters from their try line the ball broke free and Jersey ran in another try. We then had a penalty in front of the posts and went for the 3 points only to see the ball bounce back off the bar, it really was not going to be our day.

Not once did the boys heads or their standard of rugby drop, they played some really good positive rugby from the forwards to the backs but were up against a team who are one of the favourites to go up this season. (Guernsey are the others). The second half continued to go the same way as the first but despite conceding tries and being given the opportunity to end the match early the boys chose to continue to play.
At the beginning of the morning before the boys took to the pitch they were asked to come off knowing they had given 100%. There was not a Chichester boy in the squad who did not give 100%+ their attitude and commitment was noted by all those watching with Jersey saying that it is the toughest game they have played so far this season. There is no doubt in my mind Jerseys pace was the deciding factor, our boys matched them toe to toe in all other areas.

If we keep developing and progressing the way we are it will not be long before we are winning all of our games.
Well done to all today.
