Chinnor 1 Vs Paris
Next up for Chinnor 1 is the team from our host’s capital city. Paris start the game with an inviting high ball that Charlie K catches cleanly and drives back over the half way line. Four good solid rucks follow as Chinnor probe their opponent’s defences, but Paris hold firm and a tactical stalemate ensues for the first three minutes of the half.
Paris begin to turn the tide and put increasing pressure on the Chinnor line. In the last play of the half Paris actually cross the Chinnor line only to be held up and driven back by Chinnor’s hard working forwards. At the half time whistle the score is a far from dull 0-0.
Early in the second half Chinnor force a scrum and spin the ball wide, a likely try scoring opportunity is foiled by poor Chinnor handling. Chinnor enter a spell where daft knock-on’s and scruffy rucks and mauls see them making heavy weather of good possession. Finally Chinnor string a move together and get the ball to the potent weapon that is Nathaniel Heather. Leaving three Paris defenders sprawled in his wake he touches down beneath the posts – unfortunately Ollie manages to find a post with his conversion attempt. 5-0 Chinnor.
Regaining control from the kick-off, a beautifully weighted chip by Toby Butler over the top of the advancing Paris defence, sees a tremendous burst of speed from (the now fully recovered) Kooks to gather the ball at full stretch and power toward the Paris line. Only a last ditch tackle stops what would have been the try of the day so far.
Coming back at Chinnor hard the Paris team turns the tide again. Chinnor ferociously resist the onslaught to finally run out 5-0 winners in a tight and hard fought encounter.
