In 2011 the Chinnor A team beat Wallingford County festival to be crowned county champions. This year the festival was held at Wallingford and the A team went into the tournament having beaten all of the local teams throughout the season.
The first match was against Oxford Harlequins and Chinnor were slow to wake up and get into the game. The tries came nonetheless and Quins were dispatched by three tries to nil. The match was not without controversy when the ref disallowed what many believed to be a try in the dying moments of the game, depriving Chinnor of a valuable fourth try bonus point.
Chinnor sleepwalked into the next match and were held to a 0-0 draw by Banbury, a team that the boys had comprehensively beaten just 4 weeks earlier. Sharing the points placed pressure on the team but their try count carried them through to the semi-final against Witney, where at last, the boys woke up and played true to themselves. Witney were dispatched by three tries to one but the result was never in doubt as Chinnor dominated from start to finish, conceding the one soft try at the end.
The final was contested between Henley and Chinnor. Henley put on a really good show and it was a close fought final, played in a good spirit. Both sides displayed lovely rugby but Chinnor had a slight edge throughout the match. The tipping point came early in the second half as Captain Casper Dale received the kick off and made 20 yards before off loading the ball for a succession of passes. Chinnor kept the ball alive through one set of hands after Another
until the ball found its way to big Dan Biss who then ran through and over the remaining Henley players to cover the last 20 yards and go over for the game's only try.
Chinnor Under 12As retained the title of County Champions and leave Mini rugby on a high. Next year it is Junior rugby for the team and a knockout County Cup competition awaits.
