The Mighty Under 8s continued this season’s campaign fielding teams in two local festivals.
The Spitfires under command of coaches Tom and Julie were despatched on special operations to Salisbury Plain to take part in the Warminster Festival whilst the Bombers with coaches Tim and Mark at the helm had a mission at Bradford on Avon.

The sun shone brightly and so did the mighty , mighty Chippenham Under 8s.
The first two matches saw Chippenham Bombers edge past first Corsham and then Bath by a one try margin each time, with fierce tagging making the main difference between winning and losing.
Bradford on Avon Bears were then dispatched in the third game with a healthier final score and once again greater commitment and support to the ball carrier gave Chippenham the advantage over their opposition.
Trowbridge really raised their game in round 4 and pushed Chippenham hard before finally succumbing to a narrow defeat and the boys were one game away from a clean sweep.
Finally in a by now scorching (for March) last round , Chippenham turned on the gas and ran away with a clear win against the home side Bradford on Avon Bulls capping off an excellent day for the team.
Chippenham then took the cup for the Under 8s competition with a grand slam of 5 wins from 5 matches, hot, tired but deservedly happy with their performance.

Warminster Festival (by Charlotte Viner)
The trip to Warminster saw the Chippenham Spitfires face some previously unknown opposition. The one exception was in their first match, against strong local rivals Devizes, in which the Spitfires never really got airborne resulting in a narrow defeat for the boys.
In the next match against North Dorset, Chippenham started firing on all cylinders and secured a superb win with a display of fine teamwork and ferocious tagging. This improved form continued in to the next game against the host team Warminster – a tight game in which Chippenham, now flying high, came out on top.
Going into their final game of the tournament the results were so close that Chippenham needed a big win to be in with a chance of some silverware. The boys delivered with an impressive display of passing, tagging and turnover ball. This secured victory and the Warminster Festival Cup for Chippenham Mighty Under 8’s.
