Chippenham make Bournemouth Fight Hard for Win

A Chippenham side missing 12 senior squad players made Top of the table Bournemouth fight all the way at Allington Field. The final score 5-31.

Chippenham 1st team pre game preparations where thrown off couse, through the loss of experienced centre Rupert Crockett 1 hour before kick off with illness.Chippenham were forced to reshuffle a side already short of a number of established players through injury and availability. It took Bournemouth 25 minutes to break through as a young Chippenham side fought hard and with great defence kept the league leaders at bay.

Chippenham's task was made even harder with the loss of both props to yellow cards in short succession. Bournemouth took advantage and scored two converted tries before half time, in between slotting a penalty to make the half time score 0-17.

Chippenham made a positive start and on 52 mins Captain Bobby Lyons went over to make the score 5-17. Chippenham took the game to Bournemouth, with Nick Doyle giving the Bournemouth forwards a torrid time in the lineout. However a lack of game management and inexperience at this level was to cost Chippenham dear, with Bournemouth scoring two late converted tries to make the final score Chippenham 5 v Bournemouth 31. A score line that flattered Bournemouth and did not reflect the performance and spirit shown by a young Chippenham side.
