Chippenham put a disappointing performance behind them at Exmouth last week, in securing a bonus point win over Amersham & Chiltern in a tough encounter at Allington Field.
With both sides looking to cement their place in National 3 South West for next season, a tough battle was on the agenda and a large crowd was not disappointed, with both sides battling for the win. Although the rugby not pretty at times, both sides contributed to a tough and entertaining game of rugby.
Chippenham went in front on 3 mins when Bobby Lyons playing at no 8, showed a great turn of pace out sprinting the Amersham defence, to score in the corner. Lewis Surry was short with the conversion. Amersham hit back on 15 mins to score a converted try, to go in front. Both sides then fought for supremacy. It took until the 30 mins mark for the next score when Chippenham 2nd row Adie Price drove over for his 11th try of the season.
Half Time score Chippenham 10 v Amersham 7.
Chippenham had a great start to the 2nd half, following a great break by Scrum half Lewis Surry, he fed Tom Baldwin, who galloped home outsprinting the Amersham defence and his supporting players to score in the corner. The game then became an arm wrestle, with Amersham fighting hard to make sure they left Allington Field with at least a losing bonus point. The intensity of the game led to a number of flare ups between the sides that saw both sides losing players to the Sin Bin. In the end the referee lost patience and sent off the Amersham 2nd row for foul play.
Two minutes remaining Chippenham hooker Aaron Clark took a strike against the head and no 8 Bobby Lyons picked up and drove over the line, to secure a valuable bonus point win for Chippenham. Chippenham winning 20-7.
Next week Chippenham travel to Barnstaple, the hot bed of North Devon Rugby, who are sure to looking to reverse the result, when Chippenham beat them at Allington field earlier in the season.
