Doubleday Treble Sinks Oxford

Chippenham put a disappointing first half performance behind them to blow away Oxford in the 2nd half scoring 4 tries.

Chippenham put a disappointing first half performance behind them to blow away Oxford in the 2nd half scoring 4 tries.
Chippenham opened the scoring on eight minutes, when Lewis Surry converted an early penalty opportunity. Oxford hit back with a converted try, from the restart. Chippenham then pulled themselves back into the game with a well taken try by no 8 Jamie Doubleday, Lewis Surry kicking the conversion. Just before half time Chippenham gave away a soft penalty, to make the half time score, Chippenham 10 v Oxford 10.
Tough words at half time from Head Coach Jason Forster, had the desired impact, within 2 mins of the restart, Chippenham wing Fraser Clilverd danced over the line for a well taken try. Lewis Surry again converting. It was as though Chippenham had awoken from a deep sleep, with the centre partnership of Karl Brant and Gary Champion punching holes in the Oxford defence. Jamie Doubleday went over for his 2nd try of the game, this time Karl Brant converted. As the home side began to dominate all phases of the game, Oxford tried to knock Chippenham out of their stride, through the use of tactics normally seen on fight night; Chippenham continued to play their Rugby and were rewarded when Jamie Doubleday completed his treble.
Oxford had no answer to the Chippenham forward effort with Matt Bye and Adrian Price carrying the fight to the Oxford pack. Replacement hooker Aaron Clark completed the afternoon scoring when he crossed for the fifth try. Chippenham continued to press the Oxford line. A great break by Adrian Price from his own half saw him out sprint the Oxford defence, also his nearest support wing Ryan Surry. Too many pies maybe Ryan during your long injury lay off.
As the final whistle approached, Oxford lost the plot and a mass brawl erupted, ended with one player from each side being sin binned by the referee for the last minutes.
A great win seeing Chippenham move up the table to sixth place. Next week Chippenham travel to Exmouth for another tough encounter.
