Chippenham Rugby Club would like to announce some changes to the senior section coaching structure for the start of the 2018/19 season.
After two years of service with the club Dale Burn has decided the time is right to step down as 1st team coach. The results this season and the style of rugby have been very much influenced by Dale and the club would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication over that time and wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do next in rugby.
With Dales departure and following an end of season review, we can now confirm the following senior coaching set up for next season: -
John Brown – Head Coach
‘Topper’ carries on from last season as Head Coach with overall responsibility for the coaching of the senior section. He has a wealth of experience developing players through junior to senior rugby at both Chippenham and Swindon as well county/divisional U18 & U20’s – his last representative role being England Counties U18 Chairman of Selectors.
Rob Hawkins – Forwards Coach
Great news that Rob has chosen to stay at Chippenham following an excellent start to his coaching career last season. He has recently retired as a professional player having successfully played for Bath, Bristol, Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers and we have already seen the hugely positive influence that he brings to players and coaches alike.
Chris Simmons – Backs Coach
We are delighted to announce that Chris will join the coaching team with a focus on back play and skills. The club has supported Chris to obtain his Level 2 coaching award following his four seasons playing for the 1st XV when they were at Level 5, he also and has made 150 appearances in the National Leagues scoring 50 tries for Henley Hawks, Rosslyn Park, Manchester, and Newbury. Having someone of Chris' rugby playing experience and knowledge of the club is both very exciting for our rugby future and demonstrates our commitment to support & develop the Chippenham rugby community.
Jack Howden – Assistant Coach
Jack will be re-joining the club as an assistant coach to help support the coaching team - you may remember Jack was with us a few years ago and his previous experience with Old Sulians RFC, Bath University, D&W U20s, Somerset U18s, Bath Rugby (he is currently the Community Lead Coach with Bath PLC) can only strengthen our coaching team, our players, and our links with Bath rugby.
Nick Tilley – Development Squad Coach
Nick has been doing some great work in the development squad and is continuing in the role next season. He will be supported by the existing U16 coaches led by Dean Atkin who will assist the integration of the age group into senior rugby. This is a very exciting initiative and demonstrates a clear pathway for both junior coaches and players to continue the excellent work done in the senior section.
2nd XV Coach - to be appointed
The review highlighted a need for coaching support for the other senior sides and you may have seen that we are advertising for coach for our 2nd XV as we recognise the need to increase our playing and coaching depth across the section. The board believe this is an important appointment that will bolster the senior section and provide an exciting opportunity for an aspiring coach.
The board and committee are committed to developing a clear pathway for both players and coaches that will strengthen the club and our fantastic pool of talent on our achieving our stated vision of being the best amateur club in the South West.
