As we got into the changing room aka The shed, it felt like we were a team. With laughing, joking and everyone looked relaxed.

El Capitain Dave “Shnu” Newman called everyone over for the warmup and everything was looking good. The backs were looking sharp and together and with Andy Mccabe being back from holiday/ playing 1st team/drs orders(a smash gash on his head, awwwww) gave up a great line out option and with Tom Griffiths as back ball jumper, we were looking good at set pieces.
A quick rally up and squeeze and the boys were ready and they looked it too!

A quick start from Pewsey and a slow start from us meant they scored their 1st try at 5 minutes(not converted) but made it very obvious that their game plan was give it to their massive lumps and crash ball.
Our kick off saw debutant Harry Dyer chase Prince Harry’s kick down and absolutely nail the receiver with a hard hit and ruck monster Shnu and co turned the ball over at the next phase. We got the ball out wide and Gorgeous George Brooks using his wheels and a nice chip through, saw he was far too good for their chasing defence and try in the far corner(not converted).
We were back in the game and looked confident. With great work from their kick off we took the ball forward and used some phases and got the ball out wide to George again and some great steps saw him score his Second try on the 13th minute with a run from halfway.
Things then got scrappy for 15 minutes with the midfield working hard and putting in some great tackles from James Dempster and Fraser Weston saw us hold the ball well. In scrums the experience of Sam Tingle, Johnny “Puffin” Angell and the beautiful Pete Gingell showed and even through Pewsey had a much heavier pack, we were more than holding our own and pushing them back more often than not.
George with another well worked try on 28 minutes (not converted) and we were well in control with Harry scoring the next try one minute later with a run through from their kick off(converted).
We went to sleep for 10 minutes and allowed Pewsey to put the pressure back on with 2 quick, well worked tries with one converted we went into half time 24-20 up.

Good positive chat at half time and we were back on the field ready to play again!
A stolen pass from Prince(can’t find touch)Harry saw him score under the posts in the first minute of the second half(converted) and we were going again.

Ten minutes of end to end stuff with forwards Dan Sawyer and Tom Griffiths running hard straight lines and Mccabe, Dyer and Shnu hitting rucks like men on a mission saw Pewsey start to tire but a breakthrough saw them score a try on 51(converted).
It didn’t take us long to reply With Fraser bulldozing through their fly half to get the ball down over the line right under the posts(not converted!!)

Some good play from Pewsey saw them reply a few minutes later with a well worked Try(converted) and a nervous 15 minutes followed with end to end stuff. The back line worked very well together with Charlie Parsons and Prince linking up well and controlling the speed of the game with Tim Dunford using his experience to great effect and organising the line and creating some great chances from it.
With their hooker being binned for a deliberate knock on 72 minutes saw them push hard but a well deserved try after his efforts all game from Ollie Waddington on 76 minutes(converted) saw us put the game to bed and a well deserved 1st win of the season.
Final score 34-43(W)

Thanks to Brooksy, Ed Parsons and as normal Yvonne for running touch, water and first aid and thanks to everyone who pulled that 2nd team shirt on for the effort put in.

Man of the match could have been anyone on the field but Shnu and I decided to split it with George Brooks and Harry Dyer being chosen.

Combe Down away next week where we will try and continue the momentum with a win!
See you at training Tuesday and Thursday 7pm sharp.
