Bradford-on-Avon 2nds v Chippenham 3rds
Chippenham 3rds fantastic win makes it another winning clean sweep for the Senior section!!
Chippenham had two late withdrawals overnight so Cpt Wheeler asked Simo 2nds coach for assistance and were loaned Leon Kloswicz who had a awesome game thanks. However Chippenham still only had 12 players minimum number to play, 3rds arrive late to BOA also due cpt Wheeler on taxi duty picking up Nick Regan admin!! So after a quick Auckland grid, the loanie BOA player Jake joined us and we got off to bright start. Momentum was with the away side with new back line was working well for Peter Johnstone to score in the corner. Chippenham were awarded a penalty just outside 22 m and Rob Fielder narrowly missed. The pack was showing up well as usual with three virtual tight head: Johnson/Bell/Harding pushing their opposition backwards all game. It was clear that first phase possession is key so it proved. Next to score was Tom Case who ghosted over and converted by Robert Fielder. The backs were working well showing good gas especially Leon some great tackling too. From one such position and space out wide Nick Regan through a long pass out to Peter Johnstone who knocked unlucky guys. The combative Rob no scrum half Fielder scored a great and well deserved try. Great start, but Chippenham fell asleep and never realigned properly from a penalty and BOA scrum half tapped and went and converted. Doug Aikman was putting a great shift rolling back the years at no#8 however suffered a dislocated finger ouch quickly put back in by Arran Bell lift and pull apparently!!!
The half finish with Chippenham in a great position a great lead.
So Chippenham just made a couple of changes with Tom Spence leaving the fray hammy not fully healed and BOA changed their loanie Luke joined us but still only 12 players. So the second half continued much the same as the first with Chippenham using the pace of the backs orchestrated well by Fielder/Case. Yet another great position quick hands leaving Rob Fielder looking like scoring in the corner but stopped short only for Peter Johnstone to be on hand to score from half yard out. So the 3rds were back up to 13 as John Goodall never made it too the bar and joined us for first game in 18 months thanks. Chippenham again went to sleep thinking the referee was going to blow for a penalty as BOA scored. Luke the BOA loanie winger scored but had a suffered a high tackle earlier umm, the referee didn't add it the score. Not to be out done from yet another great go forward position Cpt Wheeler looped and sent Fielder the ball who scored in the corner. Darren Hubbard has found his position in the forward no more hiding!! The last 15 mins proved too much for BOA to reply, so the Chippenham dirty dozen took a well deserved victory to the bar!!
Final Score: BOA 2nd 12 -27 Chippenham 3rds
Man of the match: Doug Aikman
Big thanks to all massive team performance, loanie BOA players/cpt, an understanding Referee.
