Chippenham 3rds v Trowbridge 3rds
Tough day against local rivals but lots of positives to take forward.
Chippenham took to the field in a confident mood after recent results keen avenge earlier defeat against the opposition. Dispite Six nations activities and regularly 3rd teamer's being released to the 2nds. Fifteen soles took to the familiar driveway pitch. However it was Trowbridge who struck first through some hard running. Yet another Development squad member was making his senior debut unfortunately Jamie Kerr had to settle for an unfamiliar role on the wing, used at line out tho who had great game in attack and solid in defence a credit to the club dev programme. Chippenham who had five props were dominant at scrum time and were able to march their opposition back ward s and were unlucky not receive a penalty for collapsing under pressure. James Harding, Preston and Johnson not guilty of pre pushing or boring in this week. Trowbridge scored again orchestrated by the influential fly half. Some great back work and Sam Tingey playing out of position on the wing grubbed down the wing, slinky footie skills by Tom Case who managed to pounce on the ball in the end zone as the covering Trowbridge player over ran the ball great try converted by Matt Wray. Trowbridge scored again and well deserved the lead. New combinations again were working well with Fielder finding Hamilton and Goodall regularly who both ran the ball back well. Jamie Kerr was on hand to cover back tackle and stop a certain try. Joe Tingey at number eight was showing up well, as were fellow back rowers Andy Cunnington sore shoulder aside and Graham Atkins playing his third game in a row!! Trowbridge scores again as they were able to find space and mismatches. Chippenham from a sustained period of pressure scored from returning second row Mark Adams who took a great line from a Wray pass to crash over but no conversion.
The second half Chippenham had to be more serious and stop questioning the referees decisions. Yet it was Trowbridge who struck first great try. Sam Tingey had suffered a bang to the leg time for the magic gel no subs Sam took 5 mins to sort his injury out. Trowbridge scored again now Chippenham now had to dig deep to salvage pride and some bonus points. Chippenham from a great field position in the top right hand corner forward dominant move Matt Wray broke blind to release injured Sam Tingey to dive over in the corner great character not converted. Trowbridge scored their last try. Chippenham were in search of a loosing bonus point but after bounding the opposition line for what seemed like 10 minutes came up short. Trowbridge deserved their win and moved to second in the table Chippenham consolidating in 4th DW3N.
Thanks to all players lots of positives, Natalie Jones Physio, Jamie Kerr dad for running the line and lets not mention Matt Wray's tantrum!!
