Chippenham 3rds v Supermarine 2nds

Gentlemen of the thirds provide champagne rugby to start the year with a convincing win!

Gentlemen gathered on a sticky driveway pitch despite regulars being absent including the unfortunate suspended gentlemen Jim Hamilton. Captain Wheeler still had 24 players what a luxury so took too management [Kev Dunn] , marshaling the replacements with Jimmer Harding as playing Cpt. Supermarine who had been struggling recently were boosted by SCOB players but still only had 14 players so in true Gentlemen style we loaned them Bill Bailey / Darren Hubbard having a half each. In addition no allocated DW referee so experienced Eric Bullion stepped in assisted by Regan/Preston as touch judges. Chippenham opened their account early after first phase play good hands by the backs with Jackson evading tackles to score out wide unconverted by Fielder. Supermarine cleared their lines but the kick only found veteran McBibble just over the half way line who hot stepped down the wing to score again unconverted. So the first the games replacements happened with Hendry replacing Dunn in the row and Regan replacing Hartwell at centre who took a knock to the neck. Chippenham had a quite spell unable to capitalize on their dominance marshaled superbly by the returning Prudhoe but Jackson/Hendry did go close great defence by Supermarine. Johno for Goulding who had a a great run next replacements. Chippenham as per were dominating scrums from such scrum Spurway broke the line hands to Regan who went over untouched text book try converted by Fielder. Chippenham had the taste now another scrum Aikman to Prudhoe, to Regan excellent delay pass to the delighted Mcbibble to score and converted by Fielder. The half finished with another Chippenham try this time the versatile Storey received great recycled ball. The back row of Fielder, Hylands & Aikman very combative and able to disrupt any pattern Supermarine had. So more of the same in the second half was the call Bailey replaced Prudhoe, Preston replaced Johno. Supermarine showed good ticker and were camped on the gentlemen's line so from a scrum Spurway received the ball in the dead ball area, so not being a kicker split the defence broke out pass the 22 hands to Hylands into the opposition half passed to a grateful Mcbibble.....strike attack and converted by Fielder. So with the game hopefully in the bag more replacements with new player Colvin for Dunn and Harris for Adams who but a great shift in out of position on the wing coming on. Jackson then scored his hatrick great backs move up a sticky pitch for another jug time!! Johno for Bell great shift big man. The game with only 15 mins left Wheeler then emptied the bench that will me then replacing Colvin. The last try was Fielder great team try unconverted. Chippenham finished well but were unable to add to the score.
Final Score: Chippenham 3rds 50 - 0 Submarine 2nds
