Sunday’s touch rugby tournament, hosted by Chippenham RFC, saw 10 teams from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Avon compete for the trophy. The competitors were split into two pools and games were so tight that second and third places in both pools went down to try difference, with only one try separating the teams. Win or lose, everyone went forward to a position play-off.
The two Chippenham Cheetahs team were drawn against each other in the 5th/6th place play-off, with the Reds eventually coming out winners 2-0. The 3rd/4th place was contested by two other Chippenham teams captained by Nathan Dunford and John Beacham, with the Beacham’s coming out winners and in overall third place. The final was contested between Melksham RFC and the Chiefs, a team from the Bath touch rugby league. Both teams had been in fine form throughout the afternoon and the Chiefs eventually ran out overall tournament winners after a superb performance, with a final score of 4-2.
