Chippenham win at East Dorset
A long drive rewarded with a dominant performance
You suspect that East Dorset can play much better than this, but this morning they appeared overwhelmed by Chippenham's speed and strength. The Chippenham boys responded to what must have been a hell of a team talk from the coaches before kick-off, and put the Devizes match firmly behind them within a few minutes.
It was far from a perfect performance, but Chippenham's rucking and counter-rucking was completely dominant and our tackling was good, sometimes brilliant. There were some delightful, occasionally audacious, offloads to reward good supporting runs behind rampaging forwards, and the backs made good use of their speed and passing skills, missing out on a couple more tries thanks to esoteric flag positioning at the "corners" of the pitch.
The D&W Plate match was over at half time (with the score at 45-0*). The second half was a friendly, with Chippenham scoring a further 30 unanswered points.
Every Chippenham player should feel proud of a great team performance. For the record, tries were scored by Jammo, Alex B (2), Liam (3), Charlie P (4), Freddie, Tom, Toby G and Harrison*.
* I have notes of 14 tries and scorers. One first-half try is unaccounted for - let me know if you know whose is missing.
