Tough Tetbury prove too much for Chippenham
They say a game of 2 halves but this was definitely a game of 3 thirds.
Chippenham entertained Tetbury at Allington fields in what turned out to be a very tight fixture begeeen two well balanced teams. After playing Salisbury yesterday, Chippenham gave those that didn’t get a run out yesterday first shot at Tetbury. The first third was dominated by Tetbury and only some excellent defence stopped Tetbury scoring early on. Ironically Tetbury opened the scoring after Chippenham had their best spell of pressure but a turnover and kick ahead resulted in confusion in the Chippenham defence and Tetbury recovered the loose ball and got the try their play deserved. Tetbury showed excellent off loading and kept the ball alive, stretching the Chippenham defence and running in 4 further tries.
At the break Chippenham changed their entire line up, brining in most of the team that played yesterday’s fixture. Despite some tired bodies Chippenham managed to get themselves up for the challenge and started brightly matching Tetbury up front and causing problems with the backs. Theo Malik stepped into the number 10 position and organised the back line well, setting up 3 unanswered tries in the middle third.
For the final third of the fixture, Chippenham mixed up their squad to ensure everyone got as much game time as possible. Chippenham were a bit disjointed and lacked their usual defensive pressure which resulted in Tetbury scoring 3 tries before Chippenham added some respectability to the score line with 2 late scores.
A tough fixture for Chippenham against a very well organised team, but one that we will look to arrange again for later in the season.
