STATEMENT FROM THE CLUB CHAIRMAN – SUPPORTER CHANTING

Chippenham Town FC prides itself on being a neighbourhood and family friendly football club. It seeks to build support not just from individuals in the local community but also via commercial opportunities offered to the business community. The contributions that both make to the running of the Club are invaluable particularly as it seeks to establish itself at its current level of football and looks to fulfil its declared ambition of further progression.
It has been disappointing, therefore, to hear the language expressed in some of the chanting appearing to emanate from some of the Club’s supporters standing behind the goals at recent home games. At best it can be described as misguided at worst offensive and, regrettably, it has been audible in all parts of the ground. Whilst I accept chanting is part of supporters wishing to show their support and encouragement of their team, chants of an offensive nature, however defined, are unacceptable. Moreover, they diminish the Club in the eyes of the community and potentially undermine the Club’s efforts to provide an environment in which everyone feels comfortable and enjoys visiting.
On behalf of Chippenham Town FC and the Board of Directors, I therefore want to make it quite clear that offensive chanting of whatever nature will not be tolerated. The Club’s stewards have been instructed to identify any individual(s) engaging in such behaviour who will be removed from the ground if they persist. By all means show your support of the team but please do so in a decent and acceptable manner and not one having the potential to cast the Club in a poor light and deter others, whoever they may be, from attending our games.
