This time a late goal from Oxford City’s Aaron Woodley against the run of play extended the Bluebirds poor run of form.
Chippenham slip further down the table and must be thankful that their record before Christmas has cushioned them from a relegation fight. Oxford forced the early pace at Hardenhuish Park as Chippenham survived a series of corners.
Chippenham retaliated as Luke Gullick fired high before Oxford’s Steve Basham failed to find the net from inside the six yard box, whilst Nathan Rudge saved Chippenham as he deflected Wayne Blossom’s effort wide.
The Bluebirds were unfortunate with their first attack of the second period as centre back Steve Casey’s headed effort hit a post. After Chippenham’s Iain Harvey wasted a good opportunity, City keeper Jason Mooney thwarted Dave Gilroy and then saved Alan Griffin’s effort.
Ten minutes from time Mooney’s goal kick went through the home defence leaving substitute Woodley to hit the winning goal past Jason Matthews. The Bluebirds were again left to rue their bad luck as substitute Ross Stearn’s late shot hit an upright.
