The Bluebirds comfortably overcame their plucky Toolstation League opponents, whose goal in the final minute suggested the game was much closer than it actually was.
The Bluebirds were in control throughout but could only pierce the West Wiltshire side’s rearguard once in each half.
On seven minutes Scott Twine burst down the left but his final shot went across the face of goal.
Gary Horgan then found the young Swindon Town loaned but his shot was deflected behind for a corner.
James Guthrie’s flag kick was only half cleared to Andy Sandell whose shot was blocked. At the other end Ryan Bole’s low shot from distance was wide.
On twenty minutes Sandell chested the ball back to Twine and his shot from twenty five yards was fumbled by Rob Brown who recovered to gather the ball.
On twenty one minutes skipper Warren Maidment had Melksham's best chance of the half when he saw his headed effort from a corner well-saved by Jared Thompson.
The Bluebirds opened the scoring a minute later when Sandell's free kick on the edge of the area beat the wall and went beyond the diving Brown.
On twenty seven minutes Twine’s shot was just off target and a minute later Will Richards headed wide from a James Guthrie free kick.
Ten minutes from the interval Sandell saw Brown off his line but his attempted lob fell short.
Four minutes later a Melksham corner was half cleared to Jamie Lyons who blasted over from thirty yards out.
On forty one minutes a fine Bluebirds move ended with Josh Smile fired wide and three minutes later James Morton’s low shot lacked the power to beat Brown.
Three minutes after the break Twine shot over before he doubled the lead two minutes later when he picked the ball up on the left before cutting across the area and hitting a right footed shot across Brown.
The Melksham stopper then saved Morton’s low shot from twenty five yards, Brown then spilled Smile’s shot whilst at the other end Bole’s shot was blocked.
On sixty three minutes Twine’s ambitious shot was off target whilst James Guthrie's effort was blocked.
Midway through the half Twine controlled the ball before lifting his shot into the crossbar.
Brown again spilled the ball, this time from a Jon Beeden long range effort.
Substitute Matt Smith's shot was deflected behind whilst Gary Horgan shot wide.
A quarter of an hour from time Brown was forced into making a falling save to stop Morton's low shot.
Smile then found Morton who drove forward before shooting wide.
A minute from time Thompson did well to tip over Olly Webb’s header from the edge of the area.
A minute later Thompson did well to block a Melksham shot but substitute Joe Stradling was quickest to react and he slotted home the loose ball for what proved to be no more than a consolation goal.
