CHIPPENHAM TOWN 1 0 SLOUGH TOWN – Tues 7th August 2018

Chippenham recorded their first points of the season in a dogged game against newly promoted Slough Town.

Chippenham recorded their first points of the season in a dogged game against newly promoted Slough Town.
A first competitive Bluebirds goal for Nat Jarvis was enough to earn the three points on a very dry and dusty pitch that made passing football very difficult.
Jarvis was in fact first to show when his sixth minute shot was blocked.
Twelve minutes later Jack Compton’s fizzing cross saw a deft header from James Guthrie go straight into keeper Jack Turner’s arms.
On twenty minutes Slough’s first chance saw Scott Davies hit his free kick into the Wiltshire wall and the loose ball found its way to Chris Flood who tried to steer a shot with the outside of his boot but the effort was off target.
A further Davies free kick was grabbed from under the bar by Will Puddy. Just past the half hour Compton’s fine run was not matched by his shot which lacked the direction and pace to beat Turner.
The best chance of the half fell four minutes before the interval when Puddy was quickly off his line to block Sam Togwell’s shot and Ben Harris’s follow-up effort hit a post.
After the break Ben Harris was again prominent as he first hit a free kick wide before his looping header was comfortably saved by Puddy.
Just past the hour Compton’s free kick was blocked and the ball found it’s way to George Rigg thirty yards out and his looping shot was easily gathered by Turner.
Togwell then headed over from a Davies corner.
The all important goal came on sixty eight minutes when the Rebels defence failed to deal with a corner and Jarvis swivelled and fired home. Three minutes later Lee Togwell’s shot was saved by Puddy.
On seventy three minutes Karnell Chambers should have doubled the lead but from a central position and eight yards out he dragged his shot wide. Jarvis then failed to find the target with an effort whilst Mark Nisbet shot over at the other end.
Ten minutes from time Chambers saw his shot blocked and a minute later Slough’s George Wells shot over.
