After defeating top of the table Billericay last Saturday the Bluebirds came from behind to topple third-placed Concord Rangers with a sparking second half show in front of watching FA chairman Greg Clarke as they scored four goals in the final half hour.
Chippenham were first to show on three minutes but Will Richards’s header from Kieran Parselle’s cross lacked sufficient power to beat keeper Sam Beasant (son of David).
Three minutes later Will Henry, making his last appearance before returning to parent club Swindon Town, pulled off a superb flying save to tip away Ryan Hayes’s free kick.
On fourteen minutes Nick McCootie played in Nat Jarvis just inside the Concord half but his fine run ended with him overhitting the ball and Beasant was able to gather.
The Bluebirds had a let off three minutes later as a Concord free kick saw the ball rolling across the face of goal until Richards cleared.
On twenty two minutes Jack Compton beat two defenders and Beasant to a high ball but his lob went just over the bar. Just past the half hour Parselle found Compton but his twenty yard shot was just off target.
Compton’s free kick then went straight at Beasant.
Concord took a thirty fourth minute lead after skipper Billy Knott’s measured cross to the far post saw Alex Wall execute a sublime cushion header back across goal to go beyond the diving Henry.
After the break McCootie’s attempted scissors kick was off target.
On fifty minutes Compton’s free kick was met by the inrushing Dean Evans but his effort hit Beasant.
Matt Smith then lashed the ball across the face of goal just beyond the outstretched boot of McCootie.
Compton was the architect behind Chippenham’s first three goals as his long throw on the hour was headed on by Richards for Evans to touch home on the line. Parselle was then off target with a shot whilst Compton’s free kick was spilled by the diving Beasant but gathered at the second attempt.
Matt Smith weaved past three players into the box but Beasant got a boot to his near post shot as the Bluebirds continued to dominate.
On sixty six minutes Compton’s corner was not dealt with by the Beachboys defence and skipper Curtis McDonald at the far post fired into the roof of the net.
McDonald hit his second ten minutes from time again a Compton corner caused havoc and McDonald bundled the ball home with his thigh. As Concord went three up front Chippenham always looked capable of hitting a fourth and on eighty seven minutes the icing was put on the cake when a defensive mistake allowed Jarvis to fire past exposed keeper Beasant.
