Chippenham went down to two second half goals from a physical home side who made the most of their chances whilst the Bluebirds failed to take advantage when they had the upper hand in the opening half.
Matt Smith’s second minute free kick saw Will Richards get behind the home defence but his headed effort went straight to Preston Edwards. Two minutes later Nathan Green was fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after a scything tackle on George Rigg.
Brad House, returning in goal, did well to dive forward on to Nyren Clunis’s low cross, the young keeper then made a good save from Nathan Ferguson.
The Bluebirds suffered a blow on the quarter hour mark when Yan Klukowski, who had only just returned from a long injury lay-off had to be substituted after another strong challenge.
A minute later Dipo Akinyemi’s run ended with him dragging his shot wide.
A Dulwich clearance then fell to Nick McCootie but his reaction shot was high.
Substitute Josh Smile then hit a free kick over as the home side continued to be punished for a series of robust tackles.
Midway through the half Smith found Nat Jarvis whose teasing cross went past Edwards but the in-rushing McCootie was just unable to touch home at the far post.
House then again bravely dived on Akinyemi’s low cross whilst Ferguson’s shot from distance was fielded by the on-loan WBA keeper.
Five minutes before the break McCootie did well to intercept a Dulwich throw but his final shot from a good position was wayward. Before the interval Dominic Vose side-footed over the Bluebirds bar whilst House made a fine save to deny Ferguson.
After the break Matt Jones’s snatched shot went wide whilst Nathan Green headed Nyren Clunis’s cross against a post and Akinyemi’s follow up shot was stopped on the line with appeals for a penalty for hands turned down.
Dulwich opened the scoring eight minutes after the break when Ferguson’s header from a Vose corner was stopped on the line but Akinyemi bundled home the rebound.
Edwards did well to deny Smile when he saved his shot with his legs.
On sixty two minutes House did well as Dean Evans’s ball back to the keeper forced House into two headed efforts t before Evans tidied up. Rigg then found Smile but his low shot from an angle was saved by Edwards’s legs.
Dulwich made the game safe on sixty nine minutes with a fine individual goal from Akinyemi who turned Curtis McDonald in the area before planting a shot across House.
The Bluebirds then saw two attempts blocked on the line whilst Smile’s curling shot forced a diving save from Edwards.
Bluebird substitute Jack Compton flashed a shot over the bar whilst Dulwich substitute Ashley Carew thundered a free kick against a post. In stoppage time McDonald’s effort from a Compton corner was saved by Edwards.
