The Bluebirds shrugged off their FA Cup disappointment with a comprehensive victory over the lowly Essex side which could have been more emphatic than the two goals from Nick McCootie as Jack Compton saw his penalty saved.
The Bluebirds dominated throughout and it wasn’t until stoppage time that East Thurrock managed to get a shot on goal.
In the opening twenty minutes Compton did well to wriggle his way through but shot wide whilst McCootioe hit the bar and Rocks custodian Jack Giddens just managed to reach another McCootie effort whilst George Rigg fired wide from a promising position.
Nine minutes after the break a good Bluebirds moved ended with McCootie lashing home an an angled drive.
The Essex side almost levelled on the hour when Roman Michael Percival lifted his shot over Brad House but also cleared the bar.
The Bluebirds doubled their lead on sixty one minutes when a quick throw eventually saw the ball end up with McCootie who again fired home. Seventeen minutes from time Jon Nzengo’s effort was blocked by the Bluebirds defence.
Chippenham were awarded a free kick when a free kick was handled in the wall by Freddy Moncur but Giddens pushed Compton’s effort round a post. Substitute Karnell Chambers also spurned a good opportunity in stoppage time when he fired wide.
