ST ALBANS CITY 2 3 CHIPPENHAM TOWN – Sat 10th November 2018

Chippenham deservedly edged a five goal thriller in Hertfordshire where both teams emerged with credit after producing an entertaining game in horrendous weather conditions.

Chippenham deservedly edged a five goal thriller in Hertfordshire where both teams emerged with credit after producing an entertaining game in horrendous weather conditions.
The Bluebirds ended their hoodoo of not scoring in the opening fifteen minutes in their previous twenty one games this season.
Curtis McDonald’s long ball forward saw Karnell Chambers’s initial shot blocked by keeper Dean Snedker but he made no mistake with the rebound to open the scoring after just 36 seconds.
The home side retaliated as Kieran Parselle blocked David Moyo’s shot.
On fourteen minutes Chambers was almost through again but he was denied by a combination of Snedker and a defender.
Jason Benton then saw one shot blocked and another go wide.
Ben Wyatt then hit his free kick straight at Brad House before Banton was again off target.
On thirty two minutes Snedker knocked down a Chambers shot before gathering the ball.
Two minutes later Clovis Kamdjo’s shot went underneath the diving Brad House but rolled just passed a post, before Solomon Sambou fired wide. Josh Smile then played a superb pass out to Nat Jarvis on the left who played the ball back to Chambers who attempted to pick his spot but curled his effort just wide.
Mayo then wasted a good chance when from a central position he shot straight at House.
On thirty nine minutes St Albans were awarded a penalty as the referee eventually responded to the home side’s appeals for hands against Will Richards, with Mayo giving House no chance with a firmly hit shot. In the first minute of stoppage time Jack Compton’s corner saw Dean Evans’s shot headed over by a defender.
A minute into the second half Compton’s shot was blocked by Snedker whilst three minutes later House’s clearance saw Compton control the ball before turning and volleying high.
Snedker then did well to block Matt Smith’s shot from inside the area with his knee.
Sambou then shot straight at House and Moyo headed wide.
Chippenham regained the lead on fifty five minutes when the home defence failed to clear Compton’s free kick from the right and the ball was returned to the middle from the left and Jarvis deftly headed home.
Saints skipper David Noble’s free kick saw Tom Bender’s shot deflect off Dave Diedhiou and over the bar.
Saints equalised on sixty three minutes when Moyo hung in the air to head home a deep cross from Bender.
Jarvis then headed over whilst Snedker did well to grab the ball off the advancing Chambers.
Chambers then saw his shot blocked and Evans‘s follow-up was superbly tipped aside by Snedker.
A quarter of an hour from time substitute Nick McCootie was set free and he rounded Snedker but with an empty goal in front of him he fired wide. Five minutes later House superbly stopped substitute Sam Merson’s shot and fellow sub Khalie De Costa’s follow up was similarly dealt with by Richards.
It proved important as six minutes from time Smile’s low thirty yard shot saw Snedker push the ball out to McCootie who made amends by tapping home the winning goal.
Try as they might Saints could not come back a third time with their only chance seeing Moyo’s third minute stoppage time free kick go straight at House.
