Chippenham were given a lesson in finishing as Weston Super Mare scored three times with their limited chances whilst the Bluebirds could only convert once from double figure chances.
Weston super Mare belied their bottom of National South position as they recorded only their second league win of the season. C
hippenham dominated the opening fifteen minutes as Callum Gunner dragged his second minute shot wide whilst two minutes later Nick McCootie robbed a Seagulls defender and drove into the area but over hit his final pass.
Josh Smile’s free kick was cleared before his superb ball into the area found Matt Smith but the ball got stuck under his feet and despite his shot going past keeper Luke Purnell it lacked power and a defender shepherded it to safety.
On ten minutes Gethyn Hill’s shot was blocked whilst at the other end Karnell Chambers failed to find the target.
Weston took the lead on the quarter of an hour when Hill’s pinpoint cross from the right was firmly headed home by Marlon Jackson.
Three minutes later Smith failed to level with only Purnell to beat as he shot straight at the keeper.
Chambers was again way off target with a shot before Weston doubled their lead just after the half hour when a swift break saw Jackson find Naby Diallo who made no mistake from just inside the area.
Nat Jarvis reduced the arrears ten minutes before the interval when he followed in after Purnell had failed to hold McCootie’s low shot.
Before the interval Jarvis headed wide whilst Smile’s free kick was cleared and in stoppage time Chambers’s shot was well-parried by Purnell. After the break Smile picked up a loose ball in midfield and his thirty five yard shot sent Purnell sprawling but the effort was just wide.
On sixty six minutes Smile’s corner was punched away by Purnell,
Smith played the ball back in and Jarvis’s effort was stopped on the line by Jason Pope.
Chambers again shot wide before Diallo received a straight red card on seventy three minutes for a challenge on Mike Jones but six minutes later Hill made the game safe when he glanced home a headed effort from a free kick.
Chippenham failed to press home their man advantage as Purnell blocked substitute Dean Evans’s close range effort before pushing away a shot from Will Richards.
