Chippenham ended a run of seven games without a victory, at the same time recording their first ever win over the West London side at the fourth attempt.
After apparently cruising to victory after going 3-0 up shortly into the second half the Bluebirds were given a scare by the Beavers who made two attacking substitutions half an hour from time.
The visitors pulled the game back to 3-2 and Chippenham were indebted to keeper Brad House, on his last Hardenhuish Park appearance before returning to WBA, for saving a late penalty.
The Bluebirds opened strongly and forced two corners in the opening four minutes.
They opened the scoring on eight minutes when a sublime through ball from Jack Compton allowed Karnell Chambers to slide a shot past Tom Lovelock.
On nineteen minutes Kieran Parselle’s headed effort was chalked off because of a foul on Lovelock.
Two minutes later George Rigg’s cross was almost sliced into his own net by Richard Orlu.
Brad House was called into action on twenty three minutes when he punched away a free kick from Jack Connors.
Compton was then off target on twenty seven minutes whilst at the other end House easily held Craig Dundas’s low shot.
The Bluebirds doubled their lead on the half hour when Will Richards headed home a corner from Josh Smile.
Six minutes later Nat Jarvis’s turn and shot from twenty five yards out was saved by Lovelock.
Two minutes after the break Chambers was set free with a run on goal but Lovelock did well to come out and block his effort.
From the Bluebirds seventh corner of the game Richards’s shot was deflected behind.
As the Bluebirds continued to dominate Compton again proved the architect on fifty one minutes when his deep cross saw defender Rian Bray and Nat Jarvis both leap for the ball with the Chippenham man getting the decisive touch to head past Lovelock.
Just past the hour mark Chambers’s shot was blocked whilst Dundas won the ball off Richards but his low shot was turned behind by House.
A Hampton throw ended with skipper Sam Cox’s shot being blocked before the introduction of substitutes Ricky Wellard and Matty Wichelow on sixty four minutes saw the Beavers take the game to their hosts and the latter reduced the arrears on seventy three minutes when he fired home after seeing his initial shot blocked on the line before rebounding back to him.
Four minutes from time Hampton were awarded a penalty after Ryan Hill had been fouled in the area but House superbly beat away Connors’s spot kick.
A minute from normal time Wichelow caught House off his line as he lobbed home from 40 yards to set up a nervy period of stoppage time for the Bluebirds but they managed to hold on.
