U16s Vs Eff &L/head League game
First League game of 2012 for U16s
Sun 22/01/12 U16s Vs Eff &L/head League game
This Sunday was the first League game of 2012 for our U16s against Effingham & Leatherhead.
Effingham kicked off and applied pressure to Chipstead from the outset. Chipstead kept battling for ball but found their hard work not rewarded by any real advancement toward the Eff & L/head try line. Chipstead appeared to battle and do the hard work in winning ball only to squander opportunity with poor handling and decision making. Added to missed tackles Eff & L/head were able to take the lead. Eff & L/head continue to take the ball forward and scored again with another converted try. Chipstead had showed some signs of attack and made best use of positional kicks to gain yardage to allow us to compete in the lineouts. Chipstead continued to battle for ball but allowed Eff & L/head to gaining confidence and dominate the flow of the game. Eff & L/head spent much of the first half in Chipstead's “22” and were held up on Chipstead's try line on several occasions by some determined defending but conceded another converted try before the end of the first half.
Half time Eff & L/head 19 – Chipstead 0
Second half resumed and a good re-start kick saw Chipstead on the attack. Chipstead continue to battle for every ball and managed to move the ball around to better effect but were unable to capitalise their gains until a well worked movement saw the ball pass through Chipstead hands to see Callum Murray receive the off load to score in the corner for Chipstead's first points. This early score gave Chipstead renewed vigour and for a short period kept the pressure on Eff & L/head but were then side tracked by tensions with the opposition. Eff & L/head came back at us and again found themselves being held up on our try line before eventually scoring their fourth try. This was shortly followed by a fifth try by Eff & L/head who again exploited missed tackles. Chipstead kept going forward at any opportunity but couldn’t encroach into Eff & L/head half much before Jordan “JT” Turton was able to intercept a pass on the half way line to break through to score Chipstead's second try that Tom Clark quickly converted by way of a drop kick. Unfortunately there was too much to be done in too little time!
Final Score Eff & L/head 29 – Chipstead 12
OVERALL; Not one of our best performances with Chipstead players making a hard fought battle of things and completing the hard work only to fail to capitalise on the easy parts with some poor handling. Poor tackling also contributed to score line that actually didn’t reflect the effort and nature of the game.
SQUAD; Josh Anderton, Ted Stoner, Josh Morris, Dillon Clarke, Lewis Hayley, Will Barnes, Jordan Mack, Callum Murray, Archie Mackay, Luke truelove, Tiernan White, Tom Clark, Dominic Barber, Luke Dawson, Jordan “JC” Cope, Deklan Skanes, Asher Stephens, Joe Harrison, Josh Driver, Dan Shute, Matt Wood-Thatcher, Jordan “JT” Turton.
Special thanks to Barney for refereeing!
Also thanks to all our volunteers for their effort in the kitchen.
Lots of effort but not coming together on the day!!
Onward and Up !!!
