Sunday 13/11/11 – U16s League game away Vs Camberley

Although it was Remembrance Sunday it was one of those games better forgotten!

Chipstead set off strong from our opening kick off and immediately put Camberley under pressure. For the first 5 minutes we were camped within metres of the Camberley try line but just couldn’t make the points. Then Camberley were able to regain the ball and this found us on the receiving end for the next 10 minutes soaking up pressure from their well drilled side. Soon into the half Chipstead conceded a penalty that Camberley converted to points to take an early lead. Play continued back and forth but neither team able to make further points. The half continued with Chipstead showing periods of flare with followed by lapse periods that allowed Camberley back into the game. Camberley then found themselves camped on the Chipstead 5metres and despite some good defence by Chipstead holding the ball up on the line twice Camberley crossed the line to score an unconverted try.

Half time score Camberley 8 – Chipstead 0

With all still to play for the second half commences and saw Chipstead being put under pressure from the re-start but were able to counter attach with our full back Asher Stephens receiving ball and making good yardage to take us out of trouble only soon to find another Camberley kick through found us having conceded a lineout within metres of our try line. Chipstead were able to win ball and then retain possession in the maul to find Lartey Laryea emerge with ball in hand and a gap ahead of him. Showing his acceleration Laryea was able to break free to show a clean pair of heels to the chasing Camberley players to score under the posts, duly converted by Tom Clark to bring us back into the game early in the second half. This renewed confidence saw Chipstead on the attack again with the backs receiving more open ball to release both wingers. Jordan “JC” Cope made some penetrating runs but was unable to score, then it was Jordan “JT” Turton’s go and after several penetrating runs found himself in space to attack along the touch line to gain yards before being caught but found Dominic Barber in support on his inside to receive the off load and score under the posts, again converted by Clark to take the lead. Unfortunately soon after Chipstead were down to 14 players after Dillon Clarke’s indiscipline meant he was sin binned. This put Chipstead under more pressure and led to Camberley scoring another try that they were able to convert to take a 1 point lead. Chipstead fought on until they were up to full numbers again without conceding further points. Again Chipstead won ball and fed out to the backs to see Turton receive the ball at pace and to score for Chipstead but unfortunately not converted. Chipstead having regained the lead continued to soak up Camberley pressure but alas Camberley were able to drive their forwards into the Chipstead half and score a winning try that was also converted.

Final Score Camberley 22 – Chipstead 19

A frustrating game of rugby seeing both sides with periods of great play followed by lulls, but unfortunately Camberley were able to capitalise more on their good spells than we were.

Josh Morris, Ted Stoner, Dillon Clarke, Lewes Hayley, Harry Dudley, Lartey Laryea, Will Barnes, Archie Mackay, Tiernan White, Tom Clark, Dominic Barber, Luke Dawson, Jordan “JC” Cope, Jordan “JT” Turton, Asher Stephens, Joe Harrison, Jordan Mack, Joe Sangar, Tom Downes, Matt Wood-Thatcher,

Much to be worked on – Onward and Up !??!!

Best we forget !!
