U12s Pink Panthers Match Report
Widnes Moorfield Festival
Widnes Moorfield hosted this week’s girl’s rugby festival in which our Pink Panthers Candice, Jenny, Abby and Rebecca represented the U12s. 3 girls from Thatto- heath, 3 from Warrington and Gemma from Leigh East played with them.
The first game was blown up short of full time by the referee due to complete domination from start to finish from the Panthers team. They scored 2 tries in quick succession by the Thatto-Heath girls. Our Pink Panthers added to the points tally and led by example with a superb run from Rebecca who scored a great solo try breaking through the defence down the left flank in the corner. The powerful Thatto- Heath girls bust through the defence with ease in the forwards whilst our girls used their pace and ball skills out wide looking for the openings and gaps and support runners to lay off the ball at every opportunity. Rebecca added another try to her tally as the final score in the first game was a convincing nine tries to one.
The second game was a more evenly match which was a credit to all the girls. The opponents were from Rochdale Mayfield and the hosts Widnes Moorfield. This match had it all and produced some great rugby which pleased coaches, parents and spectators with great tries and try-saving tackles from our Pink Panthers. Rebecca from the Panthers and Megan from Warrington demonstrated that size doesn’t matter with some fearless tackling throughout the match and great comments from spectators. The team gelled well together in the second half with some great support running from Jenny which nearly resulted in a try. Excellent teamwork from Abby, Jenny and Candice in defence with 2 fantastic try saving tackles on their most dangerous player out wide in full flight bundling her into touch on both occasions. Candice scored 2 tries for the Panthers in the second half, the first with strong running rounding the defence stepping in at the last minute to score her first whilst her second resulted from a spilled ball from a crunching tackle from the Panthers team near the final whistle. The final score was 4 to 1 at the end.
Both teams were applauded at the final whistle from onlookers as our proud Pink Panthers continue their winning streak. The next festival is in two weeks time at Warrington
Two of our Pink Panthers represented the U14s and was on the winning side in the absence of most of the team who were completing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Well Done girls!
