Under 10's beat the rain & Woolston
Panthers under 10's match just managed to survive following the torrential rain over the last few days. The pitch did have to be shortened in width due to the conditions and this meant finding space was at a premium but the Panthers forwards led the way down the middle.
Panthers made a bright start getting the ball back from a clever kick off and this was followed by strong running from the scrum resulting in an early try, the first of a barnstorming hat trick from Joe Hackett. After a couple of good weeks training sessions and a moral boosting win last week at Saddleworth Ranger you could see the confidence coming back into the Panthers play. Joe Hackett followed up with his second then quick thinking at a penalty saw Liam Turner scoot in under the posts to make it 18 nil.
Woolston showed great spirit and skill picking up their game and causing numerous problems for the Panthers defence, a well deserved try reduced the deficit to 18-6. Panthers responded with a final try in the first half by Thomas Greenhalgh so the teams turned around with the Panthers leading 24-6.
The second half was much more even with 3 tries going to both teams, Thomas Williams riddled in from close range and then set up Thomas Greenhalgh for his second of the day. Joe Hackett then returned from the bench to secure his hat trick, the Panthers final score of the morning.
The match finished with a 36-22 victory to the Panthers in a highly entertaining game considering there had been questions over the conditions, played in a great spirit and well refereed
