U7s Making Progress
Panthers U7s - 4 Ince Rose Bridge U7s - 12
Chorley Panthers welcomed Ince Rose Bridge to Panther Park on Sunday for an enjoyable game, with good rugby being played by both teams.
Panthers won the toss and pressed well on their first set of six, Rose Bridge defended well and won the turnover. Chorley have been working on their defensive line in training and spaced themselves well on the first two plays, putting in good tackles. On the third play the Panthers had bunched together which gave the space for Rose Bridge to run through for a try. The rest of the period saw strong defence from both sides, each managing to hold each other out, Chorley coming particularly close when Mark Critchley was held up on the line.
Chorley made four changes for the next period giving some of the newer players game experience. Ince Rose Bridge started with the ball, the young Panthers had their field position right and put in some strong tackles to keep Ince pinned down around the halfway line, on the last tackle Rose Bridge managed to find a way through and score their second try of the game. Chorley pushed from the restart and a good run from Harvey Thompson, saw my moment of the match when Harvey was held up and he produced a great offload to Frank Ingham who drove for the line, successfully scoring under the posts. The period ended 2 tries to 1 in Ince's favour.
The third period was closely fought, with good attacks from both teams and equally strong defence from each. Ince managed to get over the Chorley line for their third and Panthers were unlucky not to score when Lewis O'Donnell was held up on top of the Ince line. The final score ended with Chorley having scored 1 try and Ince Rose Bridge 3 tries.
The young panthers played well today, they are going through a bit of a transitional phase as we introduce more structure and shape on the pitch and new players into the team, James Hardaker in his third match, showing particularly good progress. It was really pleasing to see the Panthers defensive shape starting to come together and also their runs at the play of the ball. Our defence was again excellent today with strong tackles being put in by all players, well played everyone.
