Churchtown v Trust in Yellow

Cricket meets football in Southport on Sunday, June 26th for the Churchtown Summer Bash.

Churchtown Cricket Club XI will be taking on a Trust in Yellow XI in an all action T20 styled cricket game at The Rookery, Roe Lane. Up for grabs will be The Phil Carder Cup

Phil, who was Chairman of Churchtown Cricket Club, Treasurer of Trust in Yellow (Southport FC Supporters Trust) passed away last year and the two organisations are joining forces to celebrate his life.

A ladies Kwik Cricket session will kick the day off at 12pm, before the T20 clash takes place at 2pm. A DJ, live entertainment, raffle, barbecue, and soft play area for children are all included in the running order for the day. The Rookery clubhouse and bar will also be open offering all the facilities need for a day at the cricket.

The Co-Op Food store on Marshside Road, are title sponsors of the event and have supported the day with refreshments for players and spectators.

Founder member of Churchtown CC Terry Wood, said: “We arranged the event last year, but sadly the weather beat us. Hopefully this time round conditions will be more favourable.”

“The cricket is just part of what should be a great day for our community. Bringing together Phil’s sporting passions is a great way to remember him and we are looking forward to hosting a good crowd on for the bash.”

Phil founded Churchtown Cricket Club in 1987, he played more than 300 for the club and acted as Chairman and Treasurer of the club.

Phil Carder was a lifelong Southport FC supporter and was the treasurer of Trust in Yellow.

A board member since the Trust in Yellow was established in 2006, he managed the Trust’s finances with the highest level of care and skill.

But his work for the Trust went far beyond the position of treasurer, taking on the demanding and sometimes thankless task of organising coach travel, looking after the Trust office of a matchday and actively supporting every project undertaken by the Trust.

Admission to The Churchtown Summer Bash is free, raffle tickets with more than £2,500 worth of prizes are available to purchase on the day.
