Under 18.5’s beat Kilkenny 31- 16
Cill Dara 18s continue good form with win in Kilkenny.
Cill Dara 18s secured their top four place in the league and a semi-final spot with this impressive win against a very strong Kilkenny side. The much bigger Kilkenny pack got on top early on and eventually forced a penalty after 10 minutes in front of the posts which their out-half duly converted. Three minutes later the game was level when Ryan Curran dispatched a penalty but that was cancelled out 2 minutes later when indiscipline again cost the Cill Dara lads 3 points. The next 15 minutes was a huge up-front battle as the Cill Dara pack led by Michael John Prendergast fronted up and refused to give up any scores. Kilkenny had a few penalty opportunities that they chose not to take and that would come back to haunt them as the Cill Dara backs, starved of the ball for long periods, eventually got into their rhythm and with 3 minutes to half-time man-of-the-match Adam Meehan broke the Kilkenny cover and rounded the full-back to score under the posts for the first of his eventual 4 tries. Ryan Curran converted and was on hand again with the last play of the half when Adam Meehan once again scored under the posts after being set up by Cian Buckley this time
Half Time: Kilkenny 6 Cill Dara 17
Kilkenny came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and after Ross Dooley received a yellow card for foul play the Kilkenny forwards eventually got their reward with a try 5 minutes in. Cill Dara, with the aid of the wind, kept the home team on the back foot and after 14 minutes Adam Meehan got his third try making the conversion once again a formality for Ryan by touching down under the posts. Ten minutes before the end Kilkenny got their second try of the game to make it 24-16 but a training ground move by the Cill Dara backs released Adam Meehan down the middlel for his fourth try. Kilkenny continued to press for a losing bonus point but excellent forwards defence kept them out including a rip out from Reece Delaney when Kilkenny looked like they were over the line and they managed to hold up the Kilkenny prop over the line and then pressure their backs into a mistake from the ensuing scrum. Reece Delaney got a yellow card with 5 minutes remaining but his excellent defence all day was on the edge and was unlucky to finish the game early
The guys have an outstanding league game against Wicklow that has yet to be set. In two weeks time they take on Skerries in the quarter-final of the D’Arcy cup.
