Cinderford Town FC 0 v Sholing FC 1
Sholing claimed a slightly fortuitous victory with a late strike by substitute Sam James at the Causeway today. Town almost went behind early on when an inviting cross from Brewster was somehow missed by Gibbons. Cinderford’s Kris Miller then dragged his shot wide from a good position. New signing Aaron Cornwall linked well with Miller up front leading the line skilfully while Hancock performed admirably in midfield. Will Loughman saw one shot saved and another goal bound effort kicked off the line. Twice Evans went close with powerful efforts while Town’s defence led by the impressive Greg Lewis ensured a quiet half for the visitors in attack.

Sholing were much more positive as the second half began though Bowers set free by a neat Stride pass shot tamely at John. The Town keeper then pulled off a fine save to keep out James as the home side were pressed back. From the resultant corner Marden could only produce a weak effort that John comfortably held. Cinderford produced some skilful attacking football with Cornwall linking effectively but the final pass was lacking and chances were at a premium. On 85 minutes Marden’s shot struck a post but James was on hand to slot home the rebound. Cinderford had a compelling case for a late penalty when Andy Lewis was shoved over in the box but referee Veater was distinctly un moved. Greg Lewis then saw a header blocked on the line as the visitors hung on.
