Cinderford Town FC 5 v Abingdon Town FC 0
By Paul Webb
Cinderford advanced into the next round of the FA Cup with an emphatic victory over Abingdon Town. From the start Town’s forward line caused Abingdon problems and good movement by Sommers handed an early chance to Lee Smith but his shot was inches wide. However on 23 minutes a superb run by the elusive Matt Barnes saw him cut infield and fire a powerful low drive past Hambling. Sommers who impressed throughout with some neat touches should have extended the lead from close range but his shot was blocked. Matt Smith’s cross was headed goal wards by Bird but Hambling saved well. Evans went close as Town enjoyed almost total territorial superiority. Hambling then did well to keep out Archer’s effort but was beaten again on 36 minutes Sommers netted from close range.
Half Time Cinderford Town 2 Abingdon Town 0
On 51 minutes Lee Smith broke clear and his well timed pass was gleefully lashed home by Evans. Bird then forced Hambling into a good stop from a long range free kick and Rendall’s cross was met by Barnes who couldn’t keep his shot down. With Town in total control more goals were expected and Lee skilfully created the opening for Tait to emphatically beat Hambling. Lee then tested the impressive Hambling before Barnes and Tait combined superbly to create an opening for Rendall who scored with a flourish. Tait almost made it six but his magnificent effort saw Hambling deflect the shot into the side netting. As the game reached its conclusion Barnes effortlessly beat his man and crossed for Rendall whose shot cleared the bar.
