Cinderford deservedly came out on top against their higher rated opponents as they concluded the pre season fixtures at the Causeway today. Certainly in the first half they out passed and out thought a lethargic Cirencester and took an early lead when Martin’s deft touch released Preen whose surging run and fine finish brought warm applause. Preen as usual was at the heart of Cinderford’s attacking plan and produced a neat cross which Emery headed over. Cirencester wasted several good chances as Williams and Gloucester City loanee Jarvis were especially culpable. Cinderford however extended their lead when Danny Haile rose to nod home Preen’s corner. Jones then set up Jarvis but once again his aim was somewhat awry though Williams did finally test Rivers in the Cinderford goal.

Cirencester struggled to establish a foothold in the game seemingly short on ideas and innovation so it was somewhat galling for Cinderford to concede a soft penalty which Hooper emphatically despatched. Cinderford lost some of their cohesion and were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply but strong performances from Thomas and Nelmes allied to the always dangerous and skilful Preen kept the home side ahead. Preen went close for Cinderford while Cirencester’s problems in front of goal were highlighted by Jones and Reid both squandering excellent chances to equalise. So a confidence boost for Cinderford who open their league campaign with a tough trip to Yate next Saturday
