The new dawn at Cinderford Town will be presented to the club's supporters at an EGM at the Causeway on Sunday morning (11am).

Following a tumultuous two weeks for the Foresters, elections will take place to confirm the club's new chairman and committee as the club look to secure some solid foundations for the future.

Last season was something of a mixed one for the Foresters with great on-field success tempered by off-field drama.

Their glorious success in Division One South and West of the Southern League was, in the end, overshadowed by off-field problems that saw the club refuse promotion to the Premier Division.

That decision meant that boss John Brough and a host of first-team players left the club, but interim chairman Stuart Tait said it was one that had to be made for the good of the club.

Tait remains ambitious for the future and will lay out his plans for the future on Sunday morning and he hopes that the meeting will be the basis for a brighter future.

The club's new management team has yet to be officially appointed but former Foresters players Chris Burns and Allan Gough are front-runners to replace Brough.

"It is going to be a new dawn for the club and I am actually excited about the future," Tait said.

"We have had to take some tough decisions to secure our future and there has been some negativity around the club but we want that to change.

"We are trying to build some strong foundations for the future and we are now moving forward as a club with people who have never before been involved putting their name forward."

At the meeting the club will elect a new committee with a new chairman set to replace long-serving Ashley Saunders and a vast array of other roles also up for grabs.

Tait is hoping to see as many of the Forest football fans at the meeting as possible as he wants to ensure the club is strong enough to ride any future storms.

He called the decision not to take promotion a tough one, but after speaking to a vast cross section of the club's supporters, it was one he had to make.

"When we won the league against Taunton we were all buzzing – I didn't sleep a wink that night," he said.

"Then we found out about the finances and it was horrible. I spoke to a whole range of people to fans that have been going for 50 years, to the youth team managers to gauge their opinion.

"And they all said that we had to put the future of the club first and that was what we did with the decision we made."

In refusing promotion, Cinderford caused Evesham United to be moved laterally across the divisions into the Northern League Division One South.

The Robins are fighting that decision and have condemned Cinderford's decision as it means they will miss out on a host of local derby games next term and Tait said he feels for them.

League switch is a kick in the teeth, says Evesham United boss Paul Collicutt

"I feel massively for Evesham United and I want them to stay in our league if at all possible," he said.

"It is a great football club to go to and play against. I hope they understand the position we were in and the decisions we had to make."
