Having worked themselves into a two goal lead Cleeve’s hopes of victory in this local derby were dashed by torrential rain which forced play to be abandoned after 63 minutes. The visitors were quick out of the blocks and Carl Brown forced a good save from Town keeper Tom Betts. Their positive approach paid dividends on 6 minutes when ex Town midfielder Lee Davis curled a free kick expertly past Betts. Midwinter then saw his shot well saved before Cinderford started to create chances. Dean Lee went close, Lee Smith had an effort frantically scrambled clear and Matt Barnes agonisingly failed to convert an inviting cross.
Both sides were adapting to the heavy conditions and lashing rain serving up some fine attacking football for the hardy supporters. Nortei produced the save of the game to turn a goal bound, powerful header from Lewis Sommers round the post. Betts kept out Crawford’s drive while Brown’s penalty appeal was rightly refused, Matt Smith having won the ball cleanly. Lee’s mazy run ended with him screwing his shot wide then a teasing cross from the winger fell to Smith who wasted a great chance to equalise

Bater was twice denied by Nortei before on 53 minutes Davis doubled the lead with another superb free kick clinically despatched. Sommers hit the side netting and had a drive well held by Nortei while Brown was foiled by alert goalkeeping. However with conditions worsening by the minute and no sign of the deluge abating referee Adam Matthews was forced to call a halt to proceedings.
