Cinderford’s pre season programme continued with a fine performance which saw them notch up an impressive 3-1 win over Chippenham Town at the Causeway this afternoon. An early booking for Dean Lee was indicative of a nervous start from the home side. Indeed they went a goal down on 17 minutes when Ballinger’s cross was neatly tucked away by Gilroy. Town then lost Bater through injury, Dale Evans coming on in his place. Lye’s long range shot was well stopped by John before Town started to get into the game and on 29 minutes Sommers showing a great touch deftly equalised from a Dale Evans free kick.
Chippenham player manager Nathan Rudge was then dismissed for elbowing Cinderford’s Lewis Sommers. After the predictable protests had died down Lee Smith stepped up and despatched the penalty with clinical precision. Sommers then headed wide from a good position as Town sought to extend their advantage while Chippenham attempted to re organise following the sending off.

Ballinger created but fluffed a good chance for the visitors before the introduction of Matt Barnes and Sam O’Sullivan re energised the home team. Lee Smith’s effort from a Barnes cross brought a fine save from Dempsey. Smith then produced a superb cross field pass to Barnes but once again Dempsey made an excellent stop. Wilson then deftly turned his marker but blazed his shot over the bar. O’Sullivan then picked out Barnes with a slide rule pass but his shot flashed inches wide. O’Sullivan, Barnes and Lee Smith were causing the tiring visitors defence constant problems and it came as no surprise when Cinderford went further ahead. Hancock found Barnes with a defence splitting ball and Barnes emphatic strike sealed the win for Cinderford. Chippenham to their credit kept fighting and only a magnificent save from John kept out Griffith’s late strike.
